Updates on our trip to Honduras

OK, I know I promised to post new blogs on my trip this week. However, I have so much work to catch up on, I've had to put it on the back burner while I fulfill customer orders and catch up on my editing, as well as complete a maternity and engagement shoot this week.

The good news is, our fearless group leader and travel companion, Russ Reyes, is a writer and has posted all the updates to his blog. Please make sure to visit this link to get the scoop on our mission, view a few pictures and get a feel for what Honduras is like.

I will be working on pictures next week while in Michigan and hope to have everything posted in 2 weeks!

Thanks everyone for your continued support!

Back in the states!

Well, I made it home safe and sound, just 10 hours late! Our trip home was interesting, and I will cover that in another blog. For now, I just wanted to let everyone know that I am home, and will be updating the blog day by day. Unfortunately we did not have a lot of time to access the internet, and I was unable to update the blog daily.

Please check back for daily updates on our trip, as I will have some very interesting stories to share! Also, I took about 1200 pictures and will try to get many of them posted soon. You can pre-register for the gallery at www.pictage.com/487292.

Adios,

Departing Today!

I depart for Honduras this evening out of San Francisco. I am very excited although I haven't even packed my bag yet!

This may be my last blog until I get back because I am not sure of the internet access in the town we are staying. So I wanted to send out another thank you to everyone for all of your support. Extra thanks go out to recent donations from Bill and Pam, Tom and Joan , Roy and Machelle, and Amber and Jimmy. You guys are awesome!

There is still time to send in donations. Donations will be accepted through the duration of the trip. I will also post some information about a post trip fundraiser/auction for those of you interested in getting some art work.

Thanks again and I hope to see you all soon!

Getting prepped for the trip...

Well we had our Honduras prep meeting today and things are looking good! There are some interesting things about this trip I want to share with you all so you know what this trip is all about and where your donations are going.

The culture in Honduras and the town we are staying in is very modest. No shorts or tank tops for me on this trip! Luckily I am not a smoker, because there is no smoking either. I will be giving the old liver a break as well since there is also no drinking! We will arrive in Siguatepeque after flying all night and get straight to work on the building. We will spend most days working at the orphanage with the possibility of a day trip or two toward the end of the trip.

We found out that our flight home on 6/17 is cancelled, so we will be there for an extra day. Communication with home is going to be few and far between. We are not sure what kind of options we will have when we get there. I may not be able to update the blog until I get back.

Thank you to Andy "little baby" Park for his donation this week. As part of the funds I have paid/raised toward this mission, $200 of that will be donated directly to the orphanage. We are donating around $1300 total from our group of 6 people directly to La Providencia (the orphanage).

That's about it for now. I have lots of shopping to do to get ready and will be spending the next week getting prepared. Bug spray, rain gear, candy for the kids, the list goes on and on!

Have a great weekend!

Support is rolling in!

Siguatepeque, Honduras

Since I made the decision to travel to Honduras, I have had nothing but love and support from my friends and family. I am really excited for the trip and for all the positive thoughts coming my way!

I am especially thankful to the following donors: Jenn Wong (one of my brides) and Patty Shoop (my wonderful mom)!

I will keep this updated as more support rolls in. Even the smallest amounts are appreciated!

Shoop's Shutter travels to Honduras

It's official! I will be traveling to Honduras the week of 6/10-6/17 with a small group of people from Lakeside Church of Folsom. Although I am not affiliated with the church, the group found that I could still be of service and help out a lot with my photography. While we are there, our mission will be to accomplish some of the following things:
  • To assist in the construction of the Providence orphanage building
  • To serve the people of Honduras and La Providencia
  • Make life long relationships with the people and families of Honduras
I will be assisting in the construction of the orphanage at La Providencia. As a photographer, I will also document anything and everything I can shoot. I know I will bring home some beautiful coverage of this experience and this country.

I know I can count on all of my friends and family to send well wishes and good luck my way. This is very much appreciated! For those of you who feel compelled to give a little more, I'd like to offer you a donation opportunity to help me get to Honduras and complete this mission.

All donations will go toward the cost of getting me to Honduras and the expense involved with my stay. I need to raise approximately $1,400 to cover my week in Honduras. I realize this is a lot of money but it is small in comparison to the lives that will be changed for the orphans of Honduras. They will have shelter, food, and education, among other things, that they normally would not have access to. All of your donations will support my mission. Anything beyond my expenses will be donated to Lakeside Church to support the orphanage and other missionaries.

In appreciation of your donations, I will offer a photographic gift upon my return from Honduras.
  • Donate $300 or more and receive a signed limited edition, 16x20 gallery wrapped canvas print of your choice from my Honduras gallery
  • Donate $200-$299 and receive a signed limited edition, 11x14 gallery wrapped canvas print of your choice from my Honduras gallery
  • Donate $100-$199 and receive a signed, limited edition, 8x10 gallery wrapped canvas print of your choice from my Honduras gallery
  • Donate $99 or less and receive an 8x10, matted and signed, limited edition print of your choice from my Honduras gallery
  • All amounts will receive a print, just $5 or $10 will help!
In addition to receiving a beautiful photographic keepsake from Honduras, your tax deductible donation will support a safe, clean and modern orphanage for the children of Honduras.

There are many ways to help and all are appreciated!
  • Donate money via PayPal to amber@shoopsshutter.com
  • Donate REI giftcards (we need rain gear, etc.)
  • Send your thoughts and prayers via email, mail, or just in spirit!

Thank you all for your support. I look forward to a life changing trip and can't wait to share it all with you when I return.
